The Client
BotsAndUs are a start-up company that create highly intelligent robots. Founded by Andrei Danescu and Adrian Negoita, the company aims to support a future where humans and robots collaborate towards building more meaningful and happier lives for all. Their philosophy is to inspire people to open their doors to robotics by creating beautifully designed products that are useful, accessible and loveable to humans (the Bots) and, at the same time, educate consumers about the collective and individual benefits of AI (the Us).
The Project
BotsAndUs’ first project was to make ‘Bo’ – a social robot with state-of-the-art human-robot interaction capabilities. Bo can be used for customer and guest experience across events, hospitality and retail by interacting and engaging with customers. Find out more about Bo here.
Interform was chosen as their manufacturing partner for the robot’s shell and other plastic components. Interform and BotsAndUs had several meetings to discuss the intricate curved design to come up with the best solution that was unique in design but worked functionally very well too.
After prototyping and testing, the final engineered design was decided upon which incorporated interesting curves and lines. Hardened plastic was used to ensure the shell was robust enough to protect the inner workings of the robot and shiny black and white colours were used to give it a sleek, smooth, premium finish.
The Result
BotsAndUs launched Bo at the Innorobo Show in Paris on 16th – 18th May 2017. It was a huge success with a lot of interest from individuals and companies alike. It was praised for its innovative design and everyone enjoyed interacting with Bo in both English and French! BotsAndUs have plans to exhibit at many shows in the near future to gain a bigger awareness before starting a production run with Interform Manufacturing.
